Engineering Idol 2018 – Building a Sustainable Future in Canada took place on March 3, 2018 at the Bahen Centre at the University of Toronto. Students from schools in western Toronto, Etobicoke and Mississauga came out with their best ideas for a sustainable technology that would be successful in Canada.
Now in its 11th year, Engineering Idol is a high school competition that challenges students to think like engineers and solve a problem posed to them by the organizing team. This year, in addition to developing a prototype to showcase a sustainable technology, students were challenged to debate the merits of carbon regulations in Canada.
The winners were:
- Clarkson Secondary School
- Loretto Abbey
- Father John Redmond
Engineering Idol also runs a scholarship program, which awards Engineering Idol alumni that enrol into engineering programs in Ontario. This year’s recipients were Peter Maksymowsky from Father John Redmond and Amy Kim from Loretto Abbey.
